Eastern Magi had spotted His star, bearing gifts came to King from afar. Herod learned exact time and then plotted his crime, but the magi escaped the Bete Noire*.

 | As usual, the Bible is as full of symbolism and humor as it is with the wonderful facts. Surely God chuckled to see Herod and his court defeated in this encounter. Soon Herod would die and the Christ child would return from His fully-financed (by the Magi gifts) safe-haven in Egypt. See link below.
