Joel 1: 20 - The Drought/Starvation Metaphor

July 28th, 2010

Printable Version

Joel had to use an actual drought/starvation metaphor to convince Israel that righteousness exalts a nation but persistent sin brings forth God’s judgment (despite His preference for mercy).

*El Shaddai is Hebrew for God Almighty, the all-sufficient one.

Joel 1:15 - 16

Righteousness Clout

To depict Is-rel’s spiritual drought,

feasts were over when food had run out.

That’s not like El Shad-dai*.

Do you want to know why?

It’s because they lost righteousness clout.
