Genesis 9: 16 - Rainbow Means Never Again

June 9th, 2010

Printable Version

The world’s greatest tragedy was over.  With the sun to their backs, as Noah and family looked out the window to watch the rain receding they saw the very first* rainbow, God’s sign for "Never Again".

*It had never rained before.  See www.biblelimericks.com, Archives, "Genesis 2: 6 - Eden, Watered".

The First Rainbow

At the end of the tunnel there’s light,

otherwise life is not worth the fight.

As they watched the rain go,

Noah saw the rain-bow.

Heard the Lord say, "Your future is bright".

Genesis 9:16 - 17

On any sunny day one can make a rainbow by facing away from the sun, setting your garden hose on fine spray and aiming it into the sky opposite the sun.  Look directly into the receding spray and you will see a perfectly circular rainbow.  To Noah it was the beautiful light at the end of the darkness.  This same pattern, applying it to all sorts of life situations.

In elementary school we learned that ROYGBIV, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet, were the colors of the rainbow.  Together they make white light, the color of the sun.  See Christ, the Light of the world in all of this.  Read the link below.

God's favorite color! Something I found myself pondering... Initial thought, was no, not green-- more likely the blues of the skies and heavens. However, Rev. 4:3 tells us there is an emerald rainbow surrounding the Throne-- back to green again! Perhaps the answer is white, all colors, and undoubtedly God sees all the colors even as they form white... Or perhaps, God's favorite color is something wonderful we cannot see or comprehend with human eyes...

John, I concur. But it is fun to speculate

Two points of interest. The rainbow was God's sign to man, a picture of His mercy. Isn't it interesting that it is composed of two things: The light of the world: a picture of God's mercy, and water, a picture of God's instrument of judgment. In the future there will be a New Earth. When God created the world he created land and sea. In the New Earth there is no sea. Why? That's where He cast our sins.

(In the New Earth there is no sea. Why? That's where He cast our sins.) Great insight.
